Absence of fulminant sepsis in splenectomized children
Main Article Content
Clinical charts of children with chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and congenital spherocytosis submitted to splenectomy at the Hospital Universitario del Valle, Cali, Colombia, from 1978 up to 1988, were assessed. Among 22 patients, only 17 were fully evaluable. A follow-up of almost ten years did not discover any case of overwhelming infection due to the present high cost of intravenous gammaglobulin in Colombia.
