Comparative clinical study between enoxaparin and heparin in chronic hemodialysis patients
Main Article Content
From the hemodialysis program at the Hospital Universitario del Valle, Cali, Colombia, 16 patients were studied to compare the clinical efficacy of enoxaparin and standard heparin. The patients were divided into 2 groups. The first one received enoxparin, 0.75-1.0 mg/kg, just after the beginning of dialysis in the arterial line, while the second received standard heparin, 5,000 units as a total dose. Prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time, platelet count, and corporal body temperatures were evaluated. The presence of fibrin in the venous camera, filter appearance, bleeding timer after disconnecting the venous fistula, and bleeding complications were also assessed. We didn't find any clinical differences between the two groups. Enoxaparin utilization is a simple technique that does not increase the tendency towards bleeding or enhance extracorporeal system coagulation.
