Clinical and psychological aspects of artificial insemination
Main Article Content
Artificial insemination (AI) was performed in a group of 16 private patients; eight women underwent homologous artificial insemination (husband's semen), and the other eight underwent heterologous artificial insemination. In the first group (homologous AI), 85 inseminations were performed using the method described, and 3 pregnancies occurred. In the second group (heterologous AI), 49 inseminations were performed, resulting in 5 pregnancies. These results suggest that the effectiveness of homologous AI in the interfile couple is very low when the factor of the male, oligospermia, is the cause of infertility. Regarding heterologous. AI, although the success rate is higher, it is suggested that the method should be offered to very well-adjusted couples after psychological consultation since the psychological problems that may appear could be more difficult for them than the original problem of infertility.
