Main Article Content
The present study is a prospective one, performed in 82 patiens according to the following criteria:
a) To have an uktrasound study; b) a history of surgey; c) a good description of the operative findings; and d) a pathology report.
The value of the ultrasound study was determined in the diagnosis of cholelithiasis, common duct stones, biliary tract dilatation and acute cholecystitis.
The test's sensitivity and specificity was accurate to detect gallstones and biliary tract dilatation. Results in Cali were similar to those reported in the literature.
On the contrary, the sensitivity of the test was poor for diagnosing common duct stones as well as obstruction of any other source. It was also poor to diferentiate between acute and chronic cholecystitis, such as it has been reported in several papers.
