Presence of the HTLV-1 virus in the Camentsá indigenous community of Putumayo
Main Article Content
In Valle de Sibundoy, Putumayo, Colombia, a serological study was conducted to determine the presence of antibodies against the adult human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1). A 10% positivity rate was found among the Camentsá indigenus, 0% in Ingas, and 0% in mestizos. None of the seropositive Indians had symptoms or signs of tropical spastic paraparesis or adult T-cell lymphoma leukemia.
