Abstract
La insuficiencia intestinal es una entidad que responde a diferentes etiologías; la más frecuente en la infancia es el síndrome de intestino corto (SIC). Casi 90% de los neonatos con resecciones masivas de intestino sobreviven, siempre que se asegure un adecuado soporte nutricional. Alrededor de 80% de los neonatos con SIC lograrán una adaptación definitiva según las características del intestino restante. Es necesario que a estos pacientes lo supervisen profesionales entrenados para evitar y controlar las complicaciones asociadas.
