The Letters to the Editor section of Colombia Médica is intended to promote academic and scientific debate, offering a space for critical analysis, comments, and observations on articles previously published in the journal.
Objectives
- Facilitate communication among authors, readers, and researchers on published topics.
- Encourage constructive debate based on scientific evidence.
- Allow the discussion of new ideas, discoveries, or critiques related to the journal's thematic areas.
Publication Criteria
Content
- Letters must specifically refer to articles published in Colombia Médica or address current scientific, clinical, or methodological topics of interest.
- Letters with offensive, unethical, or scientifically unfounded content will not be accepted.
Length
- Colombia Médica does not impose word limits for articles in this section. However, a length of 400 to 800 words is recommended.
- A maximum of three authors per letter is allowed.
Structure
- A clear and concise title.
- Reference to the article (if applicable) at the beginning of the letter.
- An organized and scientifically supported argumentative text.
- A declaration of conflicts of interest.
Format
- Manuscript in Word format.
- Arial font, size 12, 1.5 line spacing.
- References in Vancouver style.
- Additional documents: Authors must attach the following completed documents at the time of manuscript submission:
- Copyright Transfer Agreement: Completed and signed by all authors.
- Conflict of Interest Declaration: Detailing any financial, professional, or personal relationships that could influence the content of the article.
- CRediT Taxonomy Author Contribution Form: Specifying each author's role in the preparation and development of the manuscript (e.g., conceptualization, methodology, writing, data analysis).

Compliance with these requirements is mandatory, and their absence may delay or prevent the manuscript’s review process.
Review Process
- Letters to the editor will be reviewed by the editorial board, which will determine if they meet the established criteria.
- For letters commenting on previous articles, the authors of the original article will have the opportunity to respond.
Ethical Considerations
- All letters must be original and not previously published or under consideration in another journal.
- Authors must comply with international publication ethics standards (COPE).
- It is mandatory to declare any relevant conflicts of interest or funding.
Submission Process
Letters must be submitted through the editorial management system of Colombia Médica, complying with the guidelines described here. Failure to meet the requirements may result in rejection of the letter.
Response Policy
The editorial board reserves the right to publish responses to letters, especially if they refer to previously published articles. Such responses must meet the same length and format criteria.
