In school children of age between 7 and 14 y.o. of second, third, and fourth grade, a prevalence spinal deformity study was performed. A physical therapist and a nurse auxiliary carried out evaluations. Of 2769 children, 69.5% had some alteration, 44.3% had scoliosis, 17% had scoliosis and other deformities, 2% had structural deformities. The importance of early screening of school children for scoliosis is emphasized.
