From corpses received at the morgue of Hospital Universitario del Valle in Cali, Colombia, 115 bilateral post-mortem samples of vitreous humor were obtained and analyzed for sodium and potassium concentrations. A high correlation index of 0.85 was found for potassium and time of death in linear regression analysts, which was statistically significant (p < 0.0000001). The incorporation of sodium concentration in the model proves its predictive power, suggesting the need to analyze the effect,  in similarly conducted studies, of other substances, such as glucose, urea nitrogen, and chloride, previously discarded in literature. No statistical difference was found between samples from both eyes. This test can be useful in medico-legal cases in which a more precise estimation of time of death is considered necessary.
