Algunos comentarios a la disminución de la mortalidad en Colombia

Se discute la importancia de la mortalidad como indicador de salud. Se cuestionan la aplicabilidad del certificado de defunción en Colombia y los problemas del denominador poblacional. Se plantea la hipótesis que el descenso de las tasas de mortalidad en Colombia se explique por las variaciones del numerador y del denominador. Se presenta como ejemplo el análisis de las tendencias de muertes en Medellín entre 1917 y 1980 y se concluye que el descenso se puede deber a la disminución de las enfermedades infecciosas sin que las crónicas aún se manifiesten.
