The utilization of operating rooms (OR) of three health center hospitals with an ambulatory surgery program in Cali was measured for three-and-a-half years between 1983 and the first semester of 1986. Information was obtained directly from OR log books. A total of 11662 surgical interventions were carried out in the study period. Inguinal and umbilical hernioraphy and tubal ligation were the most frequent operations. OR's were found to be utilized 62.3% of the available time.
