Microsurgical fimbriectomies with removal of the fimbria ovarica were performed on both sides in 16 rabbits. In 6 of them, the new ostia was fixed on the ovarian surface. Two animals with a fixed ostium developed bilateral hidrosalpinx. In the remainder, both tubes were patent, and all 14 rabbits became pregnant. It is concluded that an intact fimbria with a healthy fimbria ovarica is important for normal ovum capture but is not essential for this mechanism. It is suggested a reevaluation of the concept of fimbriectomy sterilization as irreversible.
