A descriptive study was conducted on 165 patients from the Basic Care Center «La Selva» Instituto de Seguros Sociales of the city of Cali, Colombia. to determine the prevalence of obesity and establish its association with psychosocial risk factors. The presence of obesity was evaluated through the body mass index (BMI). Additionally, the family function, support of friends, the level of anxiety, depression, habits, and lifestyle were also assessed. A prevalence of obesity of 34.5% was found. When the civil state was studied, a significative association of obesity with no single condition was found (p < 0.0002, OR = 6.12, IC 95%2.11-19.03). The BMI increased with an age index of linear correlation of 0.42 (p < 0.005). In the multivariable analysis of the masculine gender, alcohol consumption had a significative correlation (OR = 9.33, IC95% 1.48-58.6 p < 0.02) to a BMI greater than 30. There was no significant association between obesity and anxiety. Depression or family dysfunction.
