On the relationship between economic liberalization and social sector development in Latin America

There is a growing concern because despite observing an improvement in the macroeconomic indicators regarding poverty status, it continues. Furthermore, this worsens the social conditions among the Latin American and Caribbean Communities. This concern has conveyed the need for social reform to various international organizations and governments of several] countries, NGOs, and the need for social change. For these purposes, lines of action have been sought that will lead to the expansion of the productive sector and the improvement of society's living conditions in general. Two key elements can be pointed out to solidify this reform: sustainable economic growth and investment in people. This document is designed to present, in synthesis, some of the central ideas and general guidelines for action, which were submitted and discussed in several meetings held to deal with these items and in which the author has directly participated.
